Adani Cement has announced the world's first commercial deployment of the RotoDynamic Heater™ (RDH™) technology at its Boyareddypalli plant in Andhra Pradesh, marking a significant step towards cement decarbonization. This innovative system, developed in partnership with Coolbrook, will utilize 100% renewable energy to power the heater, thus delivering carbon emission-free industrial heat. The initiative is projected to cut approximately 60,000 tonnes of CO₂ emissions annually, with potential to increase this reduction tenfold in the future. This move aligns with Adani Cement’s ambitious target to increase the use of Alternative Fuels and Resources (AFR) to 30% by FY28, up from an earlier target of 28%.

The RDH™ technology is designed to decarbonize the calcination phase of cement production, which is traditionally the most fossil fuel-intensive stage. By providing clean heat for drying and enhancing the value of alternative fuels, this technology enables a higher substitution of fossil fuels with sustainable alternatives. This project not only aims to meet Adani Cement’s net-zero goals by 2050, validated by the Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi), but also contributes to Coolbrook’s broader mission of reducing 2.4 billion tonnes of annual CO₂ emissions across various heavy industries globally. The deployment of the RDH™ system is seen as a pivotal step in demonstrating the feasibility of clean industrial heat powered entirely by renewable energy sources.

Adani Cement’s CEO, Vinod Bahety, emphasized that this groundbreaking project is a significant leap towards achieving their decarbonization objectives, showcasing a commitment to climate leadership and sustainable innovation. The partnership with Coolbrook sets a precedent for expanding RDH™ technology across other industrial operations, with plans for five additional projects over the next two years. As a major player in the cement industry, Adani Cement’s initiatives underscore its role in promoting a clean manufacturing future, positioning India as a leader in sustainable cement production and contributing to a reduction in the global carbon footprint.
