JSW Energy Limited has successfully commissioned India's largest green hydrogen manufacturing plant, located at its steel facility in Vijayanagar, Karnataka. Announced on November 11, 2025, the plant will produce 3,800 tons per annum (TPA) of green hydrogen and 30,000 TPA of green oxygen, which will be supplied directly to JSW Steel for low-carbon steel production. This initiative is part of India's broader efforts to transition to cleaner energy sources and aligns with the Production Linked Incentive Scheme.
The facility is strategically situated adjacent to JSW Steel's operations and is expected to significantly contribute to the company’s sustainability goals. JSW Energy has entered into a seven-year offtake agreement with JSW Steel Ltd, which lays the groundwork for supplying a total of 85,000–90,000 TPA of green hydrogen and 720,000 TPA of green oxygen by 2030. This project is also part of the Strategic Interventions for Green Hydrogen Transition (SIGHT) program backed by the Solar Energy Corporation of India, aiming to support the country’s goal of achieving 5 million tons per annum of green hydrogen by 2030.
JSW Energy's commitment to clean energy is further underscored by its ambitious targets, which include achieving a total generation capacity of 30 GW and 40 GWh of energy storage by FY 2030, along with plans for carbon neutrality by 2050. As a leading private sector power producer, JSW Energy is poised to play a crucial role in India's journey towards a low-carbon economy, particularly in the steel sector, which is often seen as a challenging area for decarbonization. The launch of this green hydrogen plant not only reinforces JSW Energy's position as a frontrunner in the clean energy landscape but also aligns with the National Green Hydrogen Mission implemented by the Indian government.
