Great Eastern Shipping Company has announced a significant leadership transition as Bharat K. Sheth is appointed Chairman of the Board, effective November 9, 2025. This decision follows the retirement of K. M. Sheth, the current Non-Executive Chairman, who will step down due to age-related reasons after an impressive tenure dating back to 1952. Under K. M. Sheth's leadership, the company evolved into India's largest private sector shipping entity, known for its governance, professional excellence, and integrity.

In honor of his contributions, the Board has designated K. M. Sheth as Chairman Emeritus, a lifetime honorary position that will not include any remuneration. His remarkable journey, which began when he joined the company at just 20 years old, has seen him rise through the ranks to become the Chairman and Managing Director in 1992. His foresight and dedication have been pivotal in navigating the company through various global shipping challenges, demonstrating a commitment to maintaining high operational standards.

Bharat K. Sheth, previously the Deputy Chairman and Managing Director, will now assume the title of Chairman and Managing Director as of the same date. This transition marks a new chapter for Great Eastern Shipping, with Bharat expected to uphold the legacy of excellence established by his predecessor while steering the company toward future growth and innovation in the maritime industry.
